讲座题目：Empress Wu Zetian: An Economic Narrative

摘要：This paper examines social mobility in Tang China (618–907) and the role of Empress Wu’s rise to power. Using a dataset of 3,619 marriages constructed from tomb epitaphs, we measure mobility through marital sorting between elite and common clans. Employing a cohort difference-in-differences design, we find that the rise of Empress Wu in 674 was associated with a significant increase in upward mobility, as men from common clans were more likely to marry into elite clans. We argue that the expansion of the keju system created new opportunities for advancement and reshaped patterns of marital sorting and social mobility.

【主讲人简介】

陈硕现为复旦大学特聘教授，研究兴趣主要集中于发展经济学、政治经济学、经济史及中国经济。中文成果发表在《经济研究》《金融研究》《管理世界》《世界经济》《经济学季刊》《统计研究》等期刊，英文成果发表在American Economic Review、American Political Science Review、American Review of Public Administration、American Economic Journal、Journal of Public Economics、Journal of Economic Growth、Journal of Development Economics、Journal of Corporate Finance、Journal of International Business Studies等期刊。除此之外，他还有六本专著和一本译著。目前主持国家自然科学基金重点、面上及青年项目，以及省部级课题及重大课题。陈硕的研究获得上海市哲学社会科学优秀成果一等奖、“青木昌彦”经济学论文优胜奖、中观经济学青年学者奖及中国青年经济学家奖，入选国家“万人领军”人才、“青年长江”人才、“四个一”青年英才、上海市“浦江人才”“社科新人”“曙光人才”及复旦大学“卓识学者”和“卓学学者”等，并担任世界银行咨询专家、国家自然科学基金通讯评审专家及教育部学位中心通讯评议专家。
